Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup tomato sauce or marinara
- ½ cup sliced pepperoni, vegetables, or your favorite toppings
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
- Extra virgin olive oil for brushing
- Sea salt and black pepper for seasoning
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by combining warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and the yeast mixture. Add olive oil and knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and transfer to a greased baking sheet. Spread evenly to form a rustic rectangle or round shape. Let rest for 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Create dimples on the dough surface with your fingertips, brush generously with olive oil. Spread tomato sauce over, then top with shredded mozzarella and desired toppings. Season and drizzle with more olive oil.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Let cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
- Use fresh herbs like basil or oregano for enhanced flavor.
- You can customize toppings to suit your taste, including vegetables, meats, or extra cheeses.
- For extra crispiness, bake on a preheated pizza stone or steel.
