- 1 (32 oz) bag of frozen tater tots
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup cream of mushroom soup or cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped green onions or bacon bits for garnish
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion, cooking until browned and translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix the cream of mushroom (or chicken) soup, sour cream, and milk until smooth. Stir in half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Add the cooked meat mixture into the bowl and combine thoroughly.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the meat and sauce mixture evenly in a greased baking dish. Top with an even layer of frozen tater tots. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese over the top.
- Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are crispy and golden brown. For extra crispiness, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes.
Notes
- For added flavor, sprinkle chopped green onions or bacon bits before serving.
- Can be assembled and frozen unbaked for up to 3 months; bake from frozen, adding extra time.
- Use freshly grated cheese for better melting and flavor.
