- 1 ½ pounds ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 2 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the glaze:
- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, honey, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well blended.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased loaf pan or shape into a loaf on a baking sheet. Spread the glaze evenly over the top.
- Combine ketchup, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl. Brush this glaze over the meatloaf before baking.
- Bake for 45-60 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). Baste with additional glaze during the last 10 minutes for caramelization.
Notes
- Adjust hot sauce according to your spice preference.
- For extra flavor, try adding diced bell peppers or shredded cheese in the mixture.
- Glaze can be doubled or customized with additional spices for a more pronounced sweet or spicy profile.
