Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs soaked in milk, chopped onion, ground beef, ground pork, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into small, even-sized meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes.
- Remove cooked meatballs and set aside. In the same skillet, whisk in flour to make a roux. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Stir in sour cream for added richness and stir until smooth. Return meatballs to the skillet and coat with gravy. Heat through for 2-3 minutes.
Notes
- Use a combination of beef and pork for traditional flavor.
- Do not overmix the meat mixture to keep the meatballs tender.
- Adjust seasonings to taste; add more allspice or nutmeg for a stronger flavor.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or lingonberry jam for an authentic Swedish experience.
