Ingredients
Scale
- 10 cups of popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- Red food coloring (preferably gel for vivid color)
- Pinch of salt
- White chocolate chips (optional for drizzling)
Instructions
- Pop the popcorn using your preferred method to yield about 10 cups. Set aside in a large bowl.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sugar, cream cheese, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir constantly until smooth and simmering.
- Remove from heat, then stir in vanilla extract and red food coloring until vibrant and evenly colored.
- Pour the red velvet mixture over the popcorn. Toss gently to coat all the popcorn evenly. Adjust food coloring for a more intense red, if desired.
- For an extra spooky effect, melt white chocolate chips and drizzle over the coated popcorn. Let it set before serving.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of red food coloring to achieve your desired shade of red.
- For extra crunch, bake the coated popcorn at 250°F (120°C) for 10 minutes, stirring halfway through.
