  • Total Time: 1 hour 55 minutes
  • Yield: 12 cinnamon rolls

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • Food coloring (orange, black, purple, or green)
  • Cream cheese frosting (prepared or homemade)
  • Optional: Halloween-themed candies or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in small bowls, tint each with food coloring to create spooky fillings.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 16×12 inches. Spread colored cinnamon fillings evenly over the dough.
  6. Carefully roll the dough tightly from the longer side. Slice into 12 equal pieces. Place them in a greased baking dish, leaving space for expansion.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes until golden brown. Remove and let cool slightly.
  8. Spread cream cheese frosting over warm rolls and decorate with candies, sprinkles, or colored frosting for a spooky look.

Notes

  • Prepare the dough a day in advance and refrigerate after shaping for a fresh bake the next day.
  • Use store-bought dough for quicker preparation, adding your spooky fillings before baking.
  • Can be adapted for gluten-free diets with substitutions of flour and frosting.
  • Add caramel drizzle, chopped nuts, or edible glitter for extra festive flair.
