  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak works great)
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce or hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Optional: sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain, then toss with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add marinated beef and cook 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add a splash of oil if needed, then stir-fry garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add broccoli and cook 3-4 minutes until bright green and slightly tender.
  4. Return beef to the pan. Mix remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and a splash of water or broth. Pour over beef and broccoli, stirring well. Cook 2-3 minutes until heated through and sauce thickens.

Notes

  • Slice the beef very thinly for tender results.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  • Use fresh broccoli for optimal crispness and flavor.
