Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (preferably 80% lean)
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Form into 4 to 6 evenly sized patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties and set aside.
- In the same skillet, pour in beef broth and soy sauce if using. Bring to a simmer, scraping up browned bits from the bottom. Mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry, then slowly whisk into the gravy to thicken. Simmer for a few minutes until desired consistency.
- Return the patties to the skillet and coat with gravy. Let simmer for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- For gluten-free options, use gluten-free bread crumbs and sauces.
- Adjust seasoning and gravy thickness to taste.
