Instructions

- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

- Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Mix in pureed blackberries and add food coloring if desired for a darker hue.
- Divide batter evenly between greased and floured cake pans.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool completely on wire racks.
- Prepare frosting and spread between layers and over the entire cake.
- Garnish with fresh blackberries for visual appeal.
