Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup almonds (preferably blanched)
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/4 teaspoon orange blossom water (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Soak the almonds in two cups of water overnight to soften them.
- Drain and rinse the almonds, then blend with one cup of fresh water until smooth and creamy.
- Strain the almond mixture using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean bowl, squeezing out as much liquid as possible.
- In a saucepan, combine the strained almond milk with sugar, salt, almond extract, and orange blossom water. Heat until the sugar dissolves and simmer for 10-15 minutes until thickened.
Notes
- Store the syrup in a glass bottle in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.
- Shake well before each use as it may separate over time.
- Consider using other nuts like hazelnuts for a unique twist.
