Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 oz (225g) fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly.
- Take a small portion of the mixture, flatten it, place a mozzarella cube in the center, and mold around the cheese to form a meatball.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake meatballs on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 20-25 minutes until golden or pan-fry until browned.
- Heat marinara sauce in a large skillet. Add cooked meatballs, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes until flavors meld and cheese melts.
Notes
- Ensure the mozzarella cubes are small enough to fit inside the meatballs without tearing the meat mixture.
- For extra flavor, add chopped fresh herbs or red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
- You can also cook the meatballs in the sauce directly after baking for added flavor and moisture.
