Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (for coating)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt. In a separate bowl, warm the milk, then add melted butter and eggs, whisking until well combined. Gradually pour wet ingredients into dry, stirring to form a soft dough. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled.
- Mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl. Prepare melted butter in a shallow dish for coating the dough pieces.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 1-inch pieces. Roll each in melted butter, then coat thoroughly in cinnamon sugar mixture. Layer the coated pieces in a greased bundt pan or round baking dish, stacking evenly.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the monkey bread for 30-35 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before inverting onto a serving plate. Serve warm with optional icing or caramel sauce.
Notes
- Ensure yeast is fresh for optimal rising.
- Warm milk should be about 110°F to activate yeast effectively.
- Add vanilla extract to dough for a richer flavor.
- For extra indulgence, drizzle with icing or caramel sauce.
- Use store-bought biscuit dough as a quick alternative.
