  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Meatballs:
    • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
    • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1 egg
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Sauce & Broccoli Stir-fry:
    • 1/4 cup soy sauce
    • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce or teriyaki sauce
    • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
    • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 1 head broccoli, chopped into florets
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • Optional: sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, soy sauce, grated ginger, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  2. Shape the mixture into small, evenly-sized meatballs. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in the same skillet. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Add the cooked meatballs back into the skillet and coat them evenly with the sauce. Let simmer for 5-7 minutes until flavors meld.
  5. While the meatballs simmer, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a separate large skillet or wok over high heat. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until tender but still crispy.
  6. Pour a tablespoon of water or broth into the pan and cover for a minute to steam the broccoli slightly. Remove lid, drizzle with soy sauce or sesame oil, toss, and cook another minute.
  7. Combine the broccoli stir-fry with the meatballs or serve side-by-side on a plate. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground chicken or turkey for a leaner version.
  • Adjust sauce sweetness and saltiness to taste.
  • Pre-cook broccoli for softer texture or leave it crisp for more bite.
