Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef (preferably 80% lean)
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: chopped parsley or other herbs for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, chopped onion, garlic, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. This ensures a tender and flavorful homemade meatloaf.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf shape on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. For a more traditional look, you can form the loaf freehand or use a loaf pan. Spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top for a glossy, flavorful crust.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). Once done, allow it to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This step keeps the meatloaf juicy and easy to serve.
- Slice your freshly baked classic meatloaf and serve with your favorite sides—mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a simple salad. Drizzle additional ketchup or gravy for extra flavor.
Notes
- Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes after baking for cleaner slices.
- You can add grated cheese or chopped herbs to the meat mixture for variation.
- If making ahead, assemble the meatloaf the night before and refrigerate; bake when ready.
