Discover the irresistible crispy, cheesy mash potato puffs – a delightful snack perfect for parties, appetizers, or satisfying your comfort food cravings. Crispy on the outside, gooey and cheesy on the inside, these puffs are easy to make and guaranteed to impress.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 20-24 cheese puffs

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (prepared and cooled)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crispiness)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

Instructions

  1. Start by combining mashed potatoes with shredded cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
  2. Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into balls, roughly the size of a golf ball. Place each ball on a tray lined with parchment paper.
  3. Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with beaten egg, one with flour, and one with breadcrumbs. Dip each mashed potato ball into the flour, then into the egg, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the breaded puffs, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Use chilled mashed potatoes for better binding.
  • Ensure oil is hot enough before frying to prevent sogginess.
  • Adjust breadcrumb coating to achieve the desired level of crunch.
  • Experiment with different cheese varieties for varied flavors.
