Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups mashed potatoes (prepared and cooled)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crispiness)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
Instructions
- Start by combining mashed potatoes with shredded cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
- Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into balls, roughly the size of a golf ball. Place each ball on a tray lined with parchment paper.
- Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with beaten egg, one with flour, and one with breadcrumbs. Dip each mashed potato ball into the flour, then into the egg, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the breaded puffs, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
- Use chilled mashed potatoes for better binding.
- Ensure oil is hot enough before frying to prevent sogginess.
- Adjust breadcrumb coating to achieve the desired level of crunch.
- Experiment with different cheese varieties for varied flavors.
