Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 sheet of puff pastry or pie crust
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (preferably high-quality)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: edible gold leaf or glitter for decoration
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Start by slicing the Granny Smith apples into thin, even pieces. Toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
- Warm the caramel sauce gently over low heat until it’s easily spreadable. Add a pinch of sea salt if desired for salted caramel flavor.
- Roll out the puff pastry or pie crust on a lightly floured surface. Cut into rectangles large enough for the apple filling. Use a letter-shaped cookie cutter to create enchanted letter shapes like ‘WIZARD’.
- Place apple slices in the center of each pastry rectangle. Drizzle caramel sauce over the apples. Fold over and seal the edges with a fork. Brush with beaten egg for a shiny finish.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake on a parchment-lined sheet for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown. Cool slightly before decorating.
- Decorate with edible gold leaf or glitter. Serve warm with extra caramel sauce on the side.
Notes
- For vegan options, use vegan puff pastry and dairy-free caramel sauce.
- For gluten-free variations, replace the pastry with a gluten-free crust.
- Ensure the pies are cooled slightly before decorating to prevent melting the gold leaf or glitter.
