- 1 cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder

- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 ½ cups dark chocolate chips (optional for extra richness)
Instructions
- Begin your decadent journey by melting 1 cup of dark chocolate using a double boiler or microwave until smooth and glossy.
- In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
- Whisk together the wet ingredients: buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla. Gradually add dry ingredients and melted chocolate mixed with boiling water to create the batter.
- Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
Notes
- Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for up to a week.
- The cake can also be frozen for up to 3 months when well-wrapped.
