  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 breadsticks 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¾ cup warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough begins to form.
  3. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 7-8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough rises, mix minced garlic, melted butter, and Parmesan in a small bowl.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and roll into a ½-inch thick rectangle. Spread garlic butter mixture evenly, then sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
  6. Cut into 1-inch wide strips, twist slightly or leave straight, and place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush breadsticks with extra melted butter if desired. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  8. Remove from oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley, and serve hot with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add herbs like oregano or basil to the garlic butter mixture.
  • To save time, prepare the dough ahead of time and refrigerate overnight before baking.
  • Reheat leftovers in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes to restore crispiness.
  • Make them vegetarian or add toppings like cooked bacon or jalapeños for a customized twist.
