- 4 large portobello mushrooms, stems removed
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 burger buns
- Your favorite burger toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, cheese, etc.)
Instructions
- Clean the mushroom caps with a damp cloth and remove the stems.
- In a bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, soy sauce, thyme, and pepper to make the marinade.
- Marinate the mushrooms in a shallow dish or resealable bag for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the grill to medium heat (350-400ยฐF).
- Place mushrooms on the grill, cap-side down, and grill for 5-7 minutes per side.
- Add cheese during the last minute of grilling, if desired.
- Assemble the burgers with lettuce, tomato, onion, and any other toppings.

- For smoky flavor, add wood chips to your grill.
