  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 tacos 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce (preferably smoky flavor)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (optional for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional toppings: diced red onion, shredded cheese, lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, cumin, and chili powder. Marinate in a mixture of half the honey and barbecue sauce for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter, and sauté minced garlic until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  3. Add the marinated chicken to the skillet and cook for 6-8 minutes per side until cooked through. Brush with remaining honey and barbecue sauce during the last few minutes for a glossy glaze.
  4. In a small saucepan, melt the remaining butter over low heat and cook garlic for 1-2 minutes to make garlic butter sauce. Drizzle over the cooked chicken or serve as a dipping sauce.
  5. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave. Slice the cooked chicken into thin strips and fill the tortillas.
  6. Top with cilantro, diced red onion, shredded cheese, or other desired toppings. Squeeze lime juice for added zing before serving.

Notes

  • For extra smoky flavor, add a dash of smoked paprika or chipotle powder.
  • You can substitute chicken thighs for breasts for juicier, more flavorful tacos.
  • Adjust the level of chili powder or add jalapeños for more heat.
  • Prepare components in advance for quick assembly during busy weeknights.
