  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss, Gruyère, or cheddar)
  • Optional: fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a loaf pan by greasing or lining with parchment paper.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until golden and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Add minced garlic in the last 2 minutes, then let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Add cooled onions and garlic. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Transfer mixture to prepared loaf pan. Spread shredded cheese evenly over the top. Optional: add more caramelized onions on top for extra flavor.
  5. Bake for 50-60 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
