Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss, Gruyère, or cheddar)
- Optional: fresh herbs for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a loaf pan by greasing or lining with parchment paper.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until golden and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Add minced garlic in the last 2 minutes, then let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Add cooled onions and garlic. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Transfer mixture to prepared loaf pan. Spread shredded cheese evenly over the top. Optional: add more caramelized onions on top for extra flavor.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to retain its shape.
- For extra flavor, top the meatloaf with additional caramelized onions before baking.
- Use gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed for gluten-free diets.
- store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days, or freeze for longer storage.
