Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by heating a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add diced onions and minced garlic. Cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in mixed vegetables and cook for 2 more minutes.
- Mix in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes to meld flavors. Optional: add beef broth or gravy for added richness.
- Transfer the beef mixture into a baking dish. Spread the prepared mashed potatoes evenly over the top. Sprinkle shredded cheese if desired.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbling. Let sit for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use creamy mashed potatoes for a better topping.
- Mix roasted garlic or cheese into the mashed potatoes for extra flavor.
- This dish reheats well, making it perfect for leftovers.
- You can substitute ground lamb or turkey for ground beef for variation.
