Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 32 oz frozen tater tots
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped green onions or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent. Then, add the ground beef or turkey, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup until well combined. Let it simmer for a few minutes to meld the flavors, creating a rich, creamy base.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the cooked meat mixture evenly in a greased baking dish. Layer the frozen tater tots over the meat, covering completely. Sprinkle generously with shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
- Place in the oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until tater tots are crispy and cheese is bubbly and golden. For extra crispiness, broil for 2-3 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with cooked vegetables or plant-based alternatives.
- You can prepare homemade tater tots ahead of time for extra freshness and crunch.
- Adjust cheese types and quantities for different flavor profiles or dietary preferences.
