  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional for creaminess)
  • 1 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional for flavor)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish and gather all ingredients.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until fragrant. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Thinly slice the potatoes. Layer half of the potatoes in the prepared baking dish, then spread the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes. Cover with remaining potato slices.
  4. Pour beef broth evenly over the layered ingredients. Dollop sour cream over the top (if using), then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  5. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use a sharp knife or vegetable slicer for even potato slices.
  • Avoid overcrowding the baking dish to ensure even cooking.
  • Feel free to add cooked bacon, sliced mushrooms, or bell peppers for extra flavor.
