Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream (optional for creaminess)
- 1 cup beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika (optional for flavor)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish and gather all ingredients.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until fragrant. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Thinly slice the potatoes. Layer half of the potatoes in the prepared baking dish, then spread the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes. Cover with remaining potato slices.
- Pour beef broth evenly over the layered ingredients. Dollop sour cream over the top (if using), then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes until potatoes are tender.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- Use a sharp knife or vegetable slicer for even potato slices.
- Avoid overcrowding the baking dish to ensure even cooking.
- Feel free to add cooked bacon, sliced mushrooms, or bell peppers for extra flavor.
