Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 8 taco shells or small tortillas
- Fresh toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, and salsa
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato paste and sprinkle with your homemade taco seasoning. Cook for another minute to meld flavors.
- Add a splash of water or beef broth, then simmer for 5 minutes to thicken and develop flavor.
- Warm the taco shells or tortillas according to package instructions. Spoon the beef mixture into each shell and top with desired toppings like shredded cheese, lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sour cream. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Store leftover seasoned beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat thoroughly before serving.
- For extra flavor, add chopped fresh cilantro or a squeeze of lime juice just before serving.
- Make sure to toast or warm the taco shells to keep them crisp.
