Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Monterey Jack)
- 1 can cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Thinly slice the potatoes and set aside.
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat and season with salt and pepper.
- Grease a baking dish. Spread a layer of sliced potatoes at the bottom. Top with cooked ground beef. Repeat layers if desired.
- Pour cream of mushroom or chicken soup evenly over the layered ingredients. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 35-40 minutes until potatoes are tender. Uncover during the last 10 minutes to melt and brown the cheese.
- Let sit for a few minutes before serving. Pair with salad or steamed vegetables if desired.
Notes
- Can substitute sweet potatoes for regular potatoes for a sweeter flavor.
- Use Greek yogurt or homemade light béchamel as a healthier alternative to soup.
- Layer additional ingredients like chopped onions or garlic for extra flavor.
- Leftovers can be stored in airtight containers for up to 3 days.
- Reheat covered in the oven at 350°F (175°C) or microwave until heated through.
