- 1 ½ pounds ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup chopped mushrooms (button or cremini)
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Sauté onions and garlic until translucent, then add mushrooms and cook until tender. Cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground meat, bread crumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix in the sautéed mushroom mixture and shredded Swiss cheese thoroughly.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet.
- Bake for about 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- You can substitute Swiss cheese with Gruyère, provolone, or cheddar for different flavors.
- If gluten-free, use gluten-free bread crumbs or omit them.
- Prepare the mixture ahead, cover, and refrigerate overnight for convenience.
