Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup ketchup (for glazing)
- ½ cup barbecue sauce (optional for a smoky flavor)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a loaf pan or shape the meatloaf by hand on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onions, minced garlic, egg, milk, salt, pepper, and dried herbs. Mix thoroughly until well blended but don’t overmix.
- Transfer the mixture into the loaf pan or form into a loaf shape on your baking sheet. Ensure it’s compact but not overly dense.
- In a small bowl, mix ketchup with barbecue sauce if desired, to create a rich glaze.
- Brush the top of the meatloaf generously with the glaze. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Once baked, let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to keep it juicy and flavorful.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner and healthier variation.
- Make ahead and store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
- Wrap slices tightly and freeze for up to 3 months for longer storage.
- Reheat in the oven or microwave for quick servings.
