  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup Italian sausage (cooked and crumbled)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil or spinach
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • Olive oil for greasing and brushing

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cooked Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly oil a loaf pan or baking sheet. Shape half of the meat mixture into a flat rectangle or oval, about ½ inch thick. Spread half of the marinara sauce over this layer. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  3. Carefully layer the remaining meat mixture over the cheese, shaping it into a loaf. Spread the rest of the marinara sauce over the top and sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese.
  4. Place the assembled meatloaf into the oven and bake for about 45-55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Brush with olive oil during the last 10 minutes for a glazed finish.
  5. Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing to ensure juicy and neat servings.
