- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 ½ cups warm milk (about 110°F)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Sift the flour, salt, and sugar into a large mixing bowl.
- Warm milk and melted butter to about 110°F, then set aside.
- Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk for about 5 minutes until foamy, then mix with dry ingredients and egg.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth, then let it rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
Notes
- Store the bread wrapped in plastic wrap or aluminum foil for up to 3 days at room temperature or a week in the refrigerator.
- For longer storage, freeze the loaf for up to 3 months, slicing before freezing for easier thawing.
- Great served warm with butter or used for sandwiches, toast, or French toast.
