- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)
- 2 cups tater tots (frozen)
- 1/2 cup ketchup or BBQ sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped parsley or green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onions, garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and shape into a loaf. Spread half of the ketchup or BBQ sauce over the top. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Remove from oven and layer frozen tater tots evenly on top of the meatloaf. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the tots. Drizzle with remaining sauce if desired.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, until the tots are crispy and the cheese is bubbly and golden. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions before serving.
Notes
- For a healthier option, use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
- Pre-cook the tater tots for a few minutes to increase crispiness.
- Add diced vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to the meat mixture for extra flavor and nutrition.
