Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cups mashed potatoes (preferably creamy and cheesy)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped parsley or chives for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine ground meat, bread crumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well blended.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf on a greased baking dish or loaf pan, smoothing the top.
- Spread the cheesy mashed potatoes evenly over the meatloaf, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C) and cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired. Slice and serve hot with your favorite sides.
Notes
- Use creamy mashed potatoes for the best cheesy topping.
- Avoid overloading the meat mixture to keep the loaf tender.
- Ensure cheese melts completely for a golden crust.
- Let the meatloaf rest after baking to maintain its shape when sliced.
