  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 slices crispy bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup bourbon BBQ sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub buns
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese
  • Optional: sliced pickles, chopped onions, or jalapeños for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  2. Shape mixture into 1 to 1.5-inch diameter meatballs.
  3. Sear meatballs in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Heat bourbon BBQ sauce in a saucepan over medium heat; simmer for 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Once browned, add meatballs to the sauce and simmer for about 10 minutes, covered, until cooked through and coated with BBQ glaze.
  6. While meatballs cook, slice hoagie rolls lengthwise and lightly toast if desired.
  7. Place 3-4 meatballs into each bun, spooning extra sauce over them.
  8. Top with slices of cheddar cheese and allow to melt slightly.
  9. Add chopped bacon and optional toppings like pickles, onions, or jalapeños.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, toast the buns before assembling.
  • Use fresh bacon for the best crunch and flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of BBQ sauce for desired sweetness and smokiness.
