Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (preferably chuck)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional for richer gravy)
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Divide the mixture into 4-6 equal portions and shape into oval-shaped patties.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add remaining olive oil and sauté sliced mushrooms until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Pour in beef broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to deglaze. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes, then stir in heavy cream if using. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over them. Simmer for another 5 minutes to meld flavors.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with sides like mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
Notes
- For a creamier gravy, stir in heavy cream at the end of cooking.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner variation, adding a bit of oil or breadcrumbs to maintain moisture.
- This dish can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days; reheat gently.
- Leftovers freeze well for up to 3 months in an airtight container.
