  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly and shape into oval patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the mushrooms for about 4 minutes until tender. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms, stirring well to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, add Dijon mustard if using, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  5. Return the beef patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to meld flavors. Garnish with parsley before serving.
