Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly and shape into oval patties about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the mushrooms for about 4 minutes until tender. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms, stirring well to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the beef broth, add Dijon mustard if using, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Return the beef patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to meld flavors. Garnish with parsley before serving.
