  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 burgers

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (gluten-free optional)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large egg or flaxseed egg (vegan option)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Burger buns and toppings like lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheese

Instructions

  1. Mash the black beans in a large bowl until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.
  2. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and egg or flaxseed egg. Mix until well combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal parts and shape each into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown or bake at 375Β°F (190Β°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  5. Serve on toasted buns with your favorite toppings and condiments.

Notes

  • If mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs to hold together.
  • For extra crunch, coat patties with additional breadcrumbs or panko before cooking.
  • Reheat leftovers in a skillet or oven for best texture.
  • Freeze patties separated with parchment paper for up to 3 months.
