Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large crisp apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- ½ cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup of milk
- ¼ cup of unsalted butter (melted)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- For the glaze:
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons of milk or lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Peel, core, and chop the apples into small, evenly-sized pieces. Toss with a little cinnamon and sugar if desired.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
- Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry, mixing until well combined. Fold in the chopped apples.
- Drop spoonfuls of batter onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Flatten slightly to resemble traditional fritters.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Turn halfway through for even baking.
- While baking, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk or lemon juice to desired consistency.
- Once baked and cooled slightly, drizzle glaze over the fritters. Serve warm with extra glaze, whipped cream, or ice cream if desired.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for balanced flavor.
- For a crisper exterior, increase oven temperature slightly or sprinkle sugar before baking for caramelization.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated up to 4 days. Reheat at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.
- To make gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
