  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large crisp apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup of milk
  • ¼ cup of unsalted butter (melted)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons of milk or lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into small, evenly-sized pieces. Toss with a little cinnamon and sugar if desired.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry, mixing until well combined. Fold in the chopped apples.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Flatten slightly to resemble traditional fritters.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Turn halfway through for even baking.
  7. While baking, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk or lemon juice to desired consistency.
  8. Once baked and cooled slightly, drizzle glaze over the fritters. Serve warm with extra glaze, whipped cream, or ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for balanced flavor.
  • For a crisper exterior, increase oven temperature slightly or sprinkle sugar before baking for caramelization.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated up to 4 days. Reheat at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.
  • To make gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
